Between July 20 and August 3, 2018, relatives from Pennsylvania were in Denver to visit my brother and cousin and their families and me. During their stay, we hiked Red Rocks Park and Amphitheater, Castlewood Canyon State Park, and the Animas River Trail in Durango. We spent a day riding the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railway. And we also visited the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, the town of Ouray, Mesa Verde National Park, Treasure Falls, and Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve.

  • (R) Red Rocks Park & Amphitheater : Here are some images from a hike of the Trading Post Trail and a visit to the Red Rocks Amphitheater in late July, 2018.

  • (C) Castlewood Canyon State Park : Here are images from a hike along the Inner Canyon Trail and the Nature Trail at Castlewood Canyon State Park in late July, 2018.

  • (B) Black Canyon of the Gunnison : Located approximately 278 miles SE of Denver on US 285, lies the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. These images fail to capture the true grander of this deep, narrow canyon.

  • (M to T) On Highway 550 : Images captured along Highway 550 between Montrose and Hermosa on July 29, 2018. We spent most of the time in Ouray, but then continued over the Million Dollar Highway, over Molas Pass, and finally arriving at Tripp Creek Sanctuary, out VRBO for the rest of the trip.

  • (D & S) Durango & Silverton : A day on the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge RR, round-trip between the Rockwood Depot (north of Hermosa) and Silverton, July 30, 2018.

  • (V) Mesa Verde NP : Images from a day at Mesa Verde National Park on July 31, 2018. Sites included Far View Sites, the Mesa Top Loop, and Cliff Palace and the Cliff Palace Loop. Spruce Tree House was closed because instability of the rock face overhanging that cliff dwelling.

  • (D) Durango : Images from a hike along the Animas River Trail in Durango (from the "You Are Here" marker on the map to the south end of the city), August 1, 2018.

  • (F & G) Durango to Alamosa : Today we drove to Alamosa, stopping first at the Treasure Falls Observation Site (F) outside Pagosa Springs and then at the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve.
